Out of the Shadows

Out of the Shadows
The numbers are shocking. More than half of women and nearly a third of all men in the United States have suffered some form of sexual assault in their lifetime. (Source: Centers for Disease Control) April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month -- a time to show support for all those millions of people affected by this epidemic, and encourage them to share their story, seek help if needed, and most of all, to know that they are not alone.
One simple thing you can do to show support is to wear denim on Denim Day -- which is Wednesday, April 30. Why denim? There's a very good reason. You can learn more from the LA-based non-profit Peace Over Violence.

The other thing you can do is just Use Your Voice. That's the theme of this year's Denim Day. Speak up when you can. Advocate for truth over shame and create a safe space for others to share their stories of trauma, healing and resilience. Each time that happens, things will change a little more, and those shocking numbers will start going down.

If you or someone you know is in need of help, call the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN) hotline for a live counselor at (800) 656-4673.
